Hello Students!

Welcome to your ninth grade English Language Arts class with me, Mr. Andrew Bishop!

I can't begin to tell you how excited I am about you all joining my class to learn more about our wonderful language, and to read some of the texts that have come to shape the way we perceive and use English as both a narrative tool and a means of self-expression.

Much of my course involves:

  • Critical reading and interpretation of the books I have chosen for us to study
  • Identifying common themes throughout a text and linking them to our own personal experiences
  • Developing the skills to express an argument or personal interpretation of a book using text-based evidence
  • Expanding our vocabularies
  • Using videos, oral presentations, and other technology-based media of your choice to express your knowledge and understanding of English and American literature!

Resources

Below I have posted a few websites that I think you will find helpful throughout the year.

Thinkfinity.org - a great website to look at for interactive exercises relevant to some of our texts

Quizlet.com - a wonderful website to help you improve your vocabulary through fun games

http://www.ereadingworksheets.com/free-reading-worksheets/theme-worksheets/teaching-theme/ - a great website you can always reference as you begin to develop your personal interpretation about a book we are studying in class
